Air Fried Lasagna

Cooked lasagna noodles hidden under a garlic cheese spread and sliced meatballs, folded, breaded, crisped in the air fryer and topped with marinara sauce

Ingredients

Cheese Filling

  • 15 oz Ricotta Cheese
  • 1 cup Mozzarella Cheese Shredded
  • 1/2 cup Parmesan Shredded
  • 2 large Eggs
  • 2 stalks Green Onions Chopped very small
  • 1 tbsp Dried Oregano
  • 1 tbsp Dried Parsley (if using fresh parsley, use 3 Tbsp)
  • 1 tsp Basil or Italian Seasoning
  • 1 tsp Garlic Powder

Bread Crumbs

  • 1.5 cups Plain Bread Crumbs
  • 1/2 cup Parmesan Cheese Grated
  • 1/2 tsp Pepper
  • 1/4 tsp Salt

Egg Wash

  • 2 large Eggs Beaten
  • 1/4 cup Cream

Additional

  • 4-6 Boiled Lasagna Noodles Extra wide
  • 1 jar Your Favorite Marinara Sauce
  • 12 Frozen Italian Meatballs thawed

Instructions

Preparation

  • Let 12 frozen Italian meatballs thaw
  • Boil your lasagna noodles until al dente
  • Rinse with cold water so you can handle them without burning your fingers
  • Mix all cheese mix ingredients in a bowl and set aside
  • Thin slice the thawed meatballs
  • Set up a workstation with your noodles, cheese mix and sliced meatballs

Roll Your Lasagna

  • Lay a lasagna noodle down on a cutting board, evenly spread 4 spoonful's of the cheese mix evenly across the pasta
  • Make three rows of meatball slices side to side with each row one inch apart leaving 2 inches of just cheese at one end
  • Fold the lasagna starting with the 2 inch just cheese side over the 1st row of meatballs, then another fold over the next row and then one more fold over the last row of meatballs
  • Roll in the direction of your fold to pick up your lasagna the easiest and place in a wax paper lined storage container (glassware)
  • Finish all of your folded lasagnas and place in the glassware with wax paper separating each layer
  • Put your lasagna filled dish into the freezer for 1-2 hours to make the cheese more solid

Bread Your Lasagna

  • Mix all bread crumb ingredients on a plate or bowl and set aside
  • Mix egg wash ingredients on a plate or bowl and set aside
  • Take your folded lasagnas out of the freezer and set up a work area with your lasagna, egg wash, and bread crumbs
  • Take one folded lasagna and roll it in the egg wash making sure all surface area is covered in egg wash, let the extra egg run back into the plate
  • Press your egg washed folded lasagna into the bread crumb mix rolling and pressing, rolling and pressing, making sure you have a good layer of bread crumbs
  • Repeat this with the rest of your folded lasagnas from the freezer placing them on a sheet of wax paper

Air Fry Your Lasagna

  • Preheat your air fryer to 400°F for 5 minutes
  • After the five minutes, spray the hot air fryer basket with olive oil until coated well, I use an EVO spray bottle
  • Place the breaded folded lasagnas into the hot oiled basket so they are not touching each other
  • Lightly spray the lasagnas with olive oil and return the basket to the air fryer
  • Air fry at 370°F for a total of 16 minutes for a lightly golden brown crust or 390°F for a darker brown crust with a little crunch
  • Flip your folded lasagnas after 10 minutes, with a very thin spatula (a cookie spatula works well)
  • Spoon a line of marinara across the top of each rolled lasagna and return the basket to the air fryer for 6 more minutes
  • *Peek every minute toward the end to make sure the lasagna does not burn, turn the temperature down to 350°F for the remaining time if you see burning
  • Use a cookie spatula and tongs to move the fried lasagna from the air fryer basket to plates and serve with your favorite vegetables and garlic bread
