Taco Meat in your Instant Pot

A do it yourself taco seasoning mixed with a little less than 2 pounds of ground hamburger cooked in your instant pot. Pressure cooking your taco meat leaves the ground hamburger very tender and flavorful.

Equipment

  • Pressure Cooker

Ingredients

  • 1.5 – 1.75 lbs Ground Hamburger
  • 1/2 cup Water or beef broth
  • 1/2 tsp Beef bouillon exclude if you're using beef broth
  • 1 Yellow Onion chopped into medium size pieces
  • 2 Tbsp Olive Oil

Taco Seasoning Ingredients

  • 1 Tbsp Chili Powder
  • 2 tsp Ground Cumin
  • 1 tsp Granulated Garlic garlic powder
  • 1 tsp Granulated Onion onion powder
  • 1 tsp Oregano
  • 1 tsp Paprika
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1/2 tsp Black Pepper fresh ground preferred
  • 1/2 tsp Cayenne Pepper

Instructions

  • Mix all taco seasoning ingredients together in a bowl and set aside
  • Chop 1 onion into medium size pieces
  • Press Sauté on the instant pot
  • When the pot is "HOT", add 2 Tbsp olive oil and the chopped onion to the instant pot
  • Let the onions saute for about 2 minutes stirring every 1 minute and then add the ground hamburger to the instant pot
  • Chop the hamburger into small pieces with a flat wooden spatula
  • Let the hamburger brown for 5 minutes then stir well while scraping the bottom clean
  • Let the hamburger brown for another 5 minutes and chop the burger into smaller pieces
  • Cancel Sauté
  • Drain the fat from the hamburger meat, I use an instant pot slow cooker glass lid to hold the meat in as I tip the pot over to drain the fat into a can or aluminum foil pressed into my kitchen drain
  • Return the pot to the instant pot
  • Stir the taco seasoning into the browned hamburger
  • Add 1/2 tsp beef bouillon to a measuring cup and 1/2 cup water, stir
  • Add the prepared beef broth (water and beef bouillon) to the instant pot
  • Put the instant pot lid on, seal the pressure release valve and pressure cook for 10 minutes
  • Release pressure after the cooking time is finished and remove the lid after the pin drops
  • Cancel pressure cook and press sauté
  • Let the meat simmer until the water has boiled off (about 10 to 15 minutes)
  • Cancel Sauté
  • You now have a pot of tender and flavorful taco meat to fill tortillas or taco shells, top salads or French fries
